Shrek, an unsociable ogre, becomes an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey, a feisty princess who resists her rescue, and a cast of banished fairy tale misfits. Through heroic feats, Shrek reverses a curse and learns to raise his Freak Flag high. It’s a story of adventure, friendship and ogre love that’s bringing ugly back!

All roles are open except Lord Farquaad.

SHREK – Male. 20s–30s, an ogre, has spent most of his life as an outcast, living in a swamp far from civilization, nothing amuses him more than felling a pitchfork-wielding mob with a deadly ogre fart, yet his crass and brutish exterior disguises a soulful and lonely heart, when forced to leave the safety of his swamp and embark on a quest to rescue a beautiful princess from a dragon-guarded castle, our reluctant hero starts to discover what it means to hope for something more. Seeking actors with a powerful presence, great wit, and a rock voice, should be able to sing to an A, principal role.

DONKEY – 20s–30s, Shrek’s self-appointed side-kick, as charming as he is clingy, a bright-eyed motor-mouth whose eagerness and quick wit barely disguise his desperate need for a friend. Seeking performers with a winning and easy charm, great comic skill, and a “burnin’” R&B vibe, should sing up to an A flat, principal role

PRINCESS FIONA – Female. 20s-30s, has spent most of her life locked in a dragon-guarded castle, reading fairy tales about damsels being rescued by handsome and charming princes. When she’s finally set free, she tries desperately to play the part she’s spent her life preparing for–the spoiled, swooning, romantic princess destined to live happily ever after–but she has a secret, and underneath the pretty dress lurks a smart, outspoken, tough-as-nails girl who can’t help burping or launching into hand-to-hand combat when the situation calls for it, principal role.

YOUNG FIONA/YOUNG SHREK – Male/Female. 8-12 years old, Princess Fiona is a bright little girl who was only recently locked in a tower, passes her time in the dragon-guarded castle, reading fairy tales about damsels being rescued by handsome and charming princes, and is hopeful a noble prince will rescue her soon, must be a great singer, principal role

ENSEMBLE/FAIRY TALE CREATURES – Excellent singer-actors for the ensemble. All should be vivid, strong comic actors, with wide singing ranges & dance ability. Seeking performers of diverse cultural backgrounds. Puppet training a plus. Ensemble roles include—Teen Fiona: to play age 13, Pinocchio, Magic Mirror, 3 Pigs, Papa Ogre, White Rabbit, Peter Pan, Wolf, Gnome, Wicked Witch, Gingy, Fairy Godmother, Ugly Duckling, Shoemaker’s Elf, Mama Ogre, Humpty Dumpty, Dragon, Papa Bear, Mama Bear, Baby Bear.

CASTING PERSONNEL STATEMENT: “We are seeking performers with strong legit and pop Broadway voices. Almost all ensemble members must sing well enough to cover a principal role. All cast must at least move well. Actors of all ethnicities are encouraged to attend this call.”
